Starting Tuesday, September 6, MWD will be shutting down a large pipeline delivering Colorado River water to a central part of the Metropolitan Water District service area will be undergoing an urgent repair. After a leak was discovered in the pipeline earlier this year, MWD made a temporary repair and began operating the pipeline at a reduced capacity while a more permanent solution was designed and developed. The repair requires Metropolitan to take the pipeline out of service through Tuesday, September 20. MWD is asking its member agencies (residents and businesses) in portions of greater Los Angeles County to suspend outdoor watering for 15-days as a critical imported water pipeline is shut down for emergency repairs. The 36-mile Upper Feeder pipeline is an important part of MWD’s regional water system, delivering Colorado River water into Southern California. MWD member agencies including the cities of Beverly Hills, Burbank, Glendale, Long Beach, Pasadena, San Fernando, and Torrance, as well as Central Basin Municipal Water District, Foothill Municipal Water District, Three Valleys Municipal Water District and West Basin Municipal Water District will be called on to suspend outdoor watering for 15-days as a critical imported water pipeline is shut down for emergency repairs. California American Water’s Baldwin Hills water system customers are encouraged to voluntarily suspend outdoor watering between Tuesday, September 6 and Tuesday, September 20, as they receive Colorado River water from West Basin Municipal Water District. We are preparing to send an email and implement a call to our Baldwin Hills water system customers regarding the shutdown and to voluntary suspended outdoor watering. For your reference updates on the shutdown will be available at MWD’s website:https://www.mwdh2o.com/projects-in-your-community/ If you need additional information, please let me know. Be safe and healthy! Brian ********** Brian A. Barreto He/Him/His External Affairs, Southern California California American Water
