Hello, Ladera. You've heard from me a lot over the last year since being elected to the Board of Directors in 2019 and named as the Marketing Chair due to my day job of running a creative agency.
Over the last year, I've had a hand in reworking the LHCA's member database, redesigning the website, responding to community inquiries, and organizing several events and initiatives for our community. You'll also find me behind our social media accounts.
The role of a board member for the LHCA is what you make of it. There are no requirements for time commitments other than a monthly board meeting on Thursday evenings. There's no pay. Sometimes it's thankless, but most of the time, it's fulfilling to know you're helping others in our community. There are some folks who put themselves out there and still others who play the part of the stoic, wise, historian that sheds light on past experiences to help uncover new solutions.
We are a very diverse board with lots of different life experiences. Each board position is a two-year term. If you don't get elected, you have the opportunity to contribute as an advisor to the board. Each year, we hold elections for half of the board seats and the following year, the other half of the board is up for re-election.
If you have a passion for helping those in need and making our community an even better place, then this call-out is for you. We are a community with changing needs and I, personally, want to make sure our board is a reflection of Ladera Heights as a whole. If you've lived here for at least a few years (if not longer) and have some time and energy to commit, we need you. When I first started helping recruit Board Members, I didn't think it would be a problem to fill the seven open seats we're about to have, but it turns out, very few folks are stepping up. Applying takes just five minutes and even if you apply, you can still change your mind before the ballots go out. Deadline to apply is 10/22/20 and the only requirement is that you're a paying member of the LCHA on or before 10/22/20.
