Driving near the Red Mountain Group (RMG) development at the intersection of La Cienega Blvd. and Centinela Ave., we can thankfully see that the project is taking shape. The 8.6-acre development has been named “The Interchange at La Cienega” One of the anchor stores of the development, Marshall’s, opened a few weeks ago. The Marshall’s store in Culver City, in the Fox Hills Plaza on Bristol Parkway, is now closed. The RMG project is designed as a two-phased development with the opening of the two anchors stores being phase one.
I spoke with one of the principals of the Red Mountain Group on the status of this Westchester project that borders North Inglewood and Ladera Heights. He stated that the large building on La Cienega, the second anchor, will be a grocery store, but he was contractually unable to reveal the name.
He did share that it is a Fortune 500 company that operates nationally. He said that they are strategically planning the opening of multiple locations and they want to announce the grand opening themselves, probably around the end of August or early September. He did confirm that it is not Smart & Final Extra like previously planned and that it will not be a Trader’s Joes.
He said that the Chic-fil-A restaurant currently under construction on the corner of La Cienega and Centinela is slated to open in December. Another tenant in phase one is a Spectrum Mobile Store. It goes into the first store in the completely remodeled building on La Tijera across from Burger King. The Burger King and the KFC are also a part of the developer's property and they both have long-term leases.
The second phase of the project will include more small retail stores to complement the development at a later date, to be determined. Dunkin Donuts and Jersey Mike’s are rumored to be a part of it, but not yet confirmed.
Update 8/25/20: More details have emerged to confirm the new store to likely to be an Amazon grocery.
